NewsThe 7th International Symposium on Ultrasonic Doppler Methods for Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Engineering is over. Welcome to ISUD7 (and AERC2010)The 7th International Symposium on Ultrasonic Doppler Methods for Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Engineering will be embedded as a special session in the 6th Annual European Rheology Conference (AERC2010), April 7-9, 2010 in Göteborg - Sweden. ISUD SymposiumUltrasound Doppler shift based measurement of velocity profiles and flow mapping has become important to fundamental research, fluid and hydraulics engineering, environmental flow, and industrial and biomedical applications. The aim of the ISUD symposium is to bring together the researchers from all over the world and to enable the exchange of latest knowledge on the application of the ultrasound Doppler technique. In addition, the symposium helps not only to understand the wide spectrum of applications in this field but also to exchange the challenges to be met in order to fulfill the needs specific to different applications. HistoryISUD conference was first launched in 1996 at Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland by Professor Yasushi Takeda, who was already using and developing an ultrasonic Doppler method and apparatus for physics applications since the eighties. Seeing the extraordinary potential of all related methods and the growing interest of researchers worldwide in various scientific fields, he decided to establish a regular meeting where anyone of concern could exchange experiences, results and methodology issues. Since then the success of this international symposium has never stopped growing, leading to its original triennial frequency being reduced to two years as of the third edition in 2002 due to an increasing number of presentations. AimsThe purpose of the Symposium is to convene both specialists and newcomers to share the present knowledge about the ultrasonic Doppler methods, presenting the various studies conducted using such methods, the related methodology development itself and the implied future prospects. ScopeApproximately one third of the studies presented deals with fundamental scientific topics while the remaining two third aims at engineering applications. Recent trends are spatio-temporal flow structure analysis, large-scaled measurement in environmental hydraulics, studies of industrial flows such as liquid metal or multi-phase oil flows, and integration of the method for in-line process-control monitoring rheological properties of flowing food suspensions. New connections were recently initiated with researchers in the medical field where ultrasonic Doppler methods were first used. FactsThe ISUD conference started in 1996 with 20 presentations and 39 participants. In 2008 for the 6th edition 40 presentations were given and 70 participants registered, the participation rate nearly doubling in one decade. To date about 50 institutions in more than 20 countries on 4 continents have an active interest in ISUD conference. Conference ProceedingsBased on the one page abstract submitted by the authors, the scientific committee selected the best papers for oral presentations. A collection of all extended abstracts of oral and poster presentations are now published as ISUD7 Symposium Proceedings. The Symposium Proceedings were distributed at the Symposium but are also available for downloading on this website after the conference.
